Review
CopyTrans is an iPod back-up application for Windows computers. It is part of a suite of applications, and allows you to back-up the songs that you have on your iPod directly to iTunes or to a folder on your computer. It works with all iPods, including the iPhone and iPod Touch. For these last two devices, you have to have iTunes 7.3 or newer installed, since it brings some needed drivers. The application connects to your iPod and looks for music thereon. It grabs all your playlists, plus artist and song information. So you can simply check all the songs that you want backed up. If you don't check any songs at all, CopyTrans will assume that you want to do a full back-up, which is just ideal. Once you hit OK, all the songs will start being downloaded either to iTunes or a folder. I like the fact that you can just download songs to any folder on your computer. CopyTrans does not seem to download any artwork. But that is no big deal, iTunes will do that for you. Although CopyTrans is the one application I am focusing on in this review, the suite also brings a free application that could work as an alternative to iTunes. It is the CopyTrans Manager, which allows you to do pretty much all that iTunes allows you to do with your songs, with the exception of audio playback. It is extremely weird that they haven't added even a small audio player for previews. Overall, the application works great, the songs are downloaded quickly, and it gives you an accurate estimate along the way. |
